Breakfast Smoothie with Matcha Green Tea

Most people are in a hurry in the morning. As for me, I never give breakfast a miss. It’s important to rehydrate our body and energize ourselves for a good start of the day. Even on a day when I don’t have enough time, I never eat a sweet or fatty snack bar. I put some tea or coffee in a Thermos bottle and prepare a loaf of bread to go if I can. An alternative is this breakfast smoothie with matcha green tea. It contains tea, fruit, cereals, and vegan milk. It’s one of the healthiest and most nourishing green smoothies I have ever tried and I love it.

Ingredients for 1 large glass of breakfast smoothie

  • ½ banana
  • ½ apple
  • 2 table spoons oat flour or oat flakes
  • ½ cup of milk (rice milk, almond milk, soy milk, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of Matcha powder
  • 1 scant sprinkling of spirulina

Preparation

This smoothie is easy to prepare. In a blender, put all the ingredients in the following order:

  • The banana: peeled, and chopped;
  • The apple: washed, deseeded, peeled (if not organic), and chopped;
  • The oat flour;
  • The Matcha powder;
  • The sesame seeds;
  • The spirulina, and
  • The milk.

Mix everything in the blender until the preparation becomes creamy. That’s it!

A green smoothie for a healthy breakfast

Matcha is a type of green tea finely grinded between two millstones and traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It contains vitamins and minerals and is also an antioxidant. Matcha powder tends to be quite expensive but lasts for a long time as we use only one or two teaspoons for pastries and other preparations. Spirulina is a blue or green algae that colors a dish when added to it. It contains iron among other useful elements for the body. That’s why we call it “super-food.” Its taste is peculiar, which is why I usually only add a sprinkling of it.

There is no added sugar in this smoothie. Fruit and most vegan types of milk are sweet so it isn’t necessary to add any more sugar.

Cereals, seeds, and fruit make a really healthy smoothie, with plenty of vitamins and minerals. You can now start your day with a load of vitality!
